Father Arrested For Leaving His Son, 11, At A Hotel To Go Out To Celebrate His Team's FA Cup Win Against Manchester United

A Middlesbrough supporter has been arrested after leaving his 11-year-old son at a hotel to go celebrate his side's FA Cup victory against Manchester United.

The arrest was confirmed in a tweet on Saturday from Greater Manchester Police (GMP), who said the force took care of the child while an 'unhappy mum' was on her way down to collect the boy.

The force's GMP Stretford account, which covers the Old Trafford area, said the Middlesbrough fan left his child to go out for victory drinks in the town following Friday night's win.

Police have said the 35-year-old man remains in police custody for questioning.

A GMP spokesperson told MailOnline: 'In the early hours of Saturday 5 February 2022, police received a report of concern for the welfare of a child.

'Enquiries established that an 11-year-old boy was asleep alone in a hotel room in Trafford.

'A 35-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of child neglect. He remains in police custody for questioning.'

The GMP's tweet read: 'Boro away fan arrested for child neglect last night, after choosing to leave his 11yr child in the hotel after the game whilst he went into town celebrating their victory drinking.

'We have looked after the child with an unhappy mum on her way down from N/East to collect him.'

Middlesbrough beat United in the fourth-round tie at Old Trafford on Friday night following a penalty shoot-out.
