"I am heartbroken by the news of David's passing," Patriots owner Robert Kraft said in a statement. "He was a devout Christian who followed his passion following his football career and founded his ministry. David transitioned from an undersized and understated wide receiver to a powerful and passionate preacher. In New England, he will always be remembered as a three-time Super Bowl Champion."

Patten was a wide receiver for the Patriots between 2001 and 2004, winning three Super Bowls with the team. He also played for the New Orleans Saints and Washington. The pattern played his final NFL game in 2008 and finished with 324 receptions for 4,715 yards and 24 touchdowns.
