Fellow musicians, fans and industry professionals have taken to social media to remember and honour the American iconic rapper, DMX, who died on Friday, April 9.

Born Earl Simmons, the hip-hop rapper died on Friday at 50 after spending one week in the hospital over an heart attack and reported drug overdose.

On April 3, MDB reported that the 50-year-old rapper was hospitalised and was in critical condition, following the heart attack.

Following his hospitalisation, a prayer vigil was held by family, friends and fans outside the hospital where DMX was receiving care in White Plains, New York.

Speaking about DMX, Def Jam Recordings, who last collaborated with DMX on his album “Grand Champ” in 2003, released a statement honoring the late rapper.

The record label said;

Def Jam Recordings and the extended Def Jam family of artists, executives and employees are deeply and profoundly saddened by the loss of our brother Earl ‘DMX’ Simmons.

DMX was a brilliant artist and an inspiration to millions around the world. His message of triumph over struggle, his search for the light out of darkness, his pursuit of truth and grace brought us closer to our own humanity. Our thoughts and prayers are with his family and all those who loved him and were touched by him. DMX was nothing less than a giant. His legend will live on forever.
