Total Chaos In Lebanon As Massive Explosion Shakes The Capital, Beirut (Videos)

                                 

A large blast rocked Lebanon's capital Beirut on Tuesday, August 4 and reportedly killed at least 27 people and injured more than 2,500 others, the health minister disclosed.


The afternoon explosion shook several parts of the capital with Local Red Cross reporting hundreds of injured and widespread damage.

Local TV stations reported the blast was at Beirut's port inside an area where firecrackers were stored, while an Associated Press photographer near Beirut's port said he witnessed people wounded on the ground and widespread destruction in central Beirut.

Lebanon's state news agency NNA and two security sources said the blast had occurred in the port area where there are warehouses housing explosives. It was not immediately clear what caused the blast or what kind of explosives were in the warehouses. 

"I saw a fireball and smoke billowing over Beirut. People were screaming and running, bleeding. Balconies were blown off buildings. Glass in high-rise buildings shattered and fell to the street," said a Reuters witness.Local broadcaster LBC quoted the health minister as saying there was a"very high number" of injures and a large amount of damage. Al Mayadeen television said hundreds were wounded.
